W est A uckland L iving S kills H ome T rust WALSHtrust is a non government organisation located in Henderson, West Auckland. We are an independent charitable trust, with funding coming from contracts with the Ministries of Health and Social Development and the Department of Work Income, and charitable donations from organisations and individuals. Residential Housing Recovery seven houses across west and central Auckland with 39 clients receiving 24 hour support. EmploymentWorks! independent ENDEAVOURS psycho education service designed to address barriers to participation in the community, for 75 people.
Regular audits from the various funding agencies have commented favourably upon the organisation's progress and development. We have been a leader in the provision of community based mental health support services in West Auckland since 1988. From a small beginning with one house in Te Atatu South for 12 clients, we now employ 85 staff, have 350 clients enrolled and an annual turnover of 4. A recent New Zealand mental health survey shows nearly half of New Zealanders will experience a mental illness and or an addiction at some time in their lives, with one in five of people affected at any one time. Around 3 of those people adults, young people and children have serious ongoing and disabling mental ill health requiring treatment from specialist mental health, alcohol and drug services.
The remaining 17 experience less severe, moderate and milder ill health and problems, which usually do not need treatment from specialist mental health services. WALSHtrust's philosophy is based on the fundamental belief that people can recover from mental ill health. Recovery is defined in the Mental Health Blueprint as the ability to live well in the presence or absence of one's mental ill health or whatever people choose to name their experience. WALSHtrust won GOLD at the 2012 Australian and New Zealand Mental Health Conference Achievement Awards in Cairns the award was for the provision of specialist mental health support services which inspire people to believe in and develop their own worth and potential.

Jigsaw Peer Support Services is about creating connections, through the areas of your life that are important to you. jigsaw is for people who are looking for ways to enhance their lives beyond their experience of mental illness. There is an atmosphere of hope and celebration and people are not told what they have to do. jigsaw Peer Support Services offer people the opportunity to increase their knowledge and resources, by sharing all kinds of experience, strengths and information. Te Whare Rata 'the place of wisdom' currently provides six beds for older people who require short term support with their mental health. How long people stay at Te Whare Rata is based upon a person's support needs assessment. Given the lack of planning given to developing services for such dramatic change in population demographic, this reality is increasingly being referred to as a crisis . ENDEAVOURS is a free service for those aged with a significant barrier to accessing employment or engaging with the community. independent ENDEAVOURS offers group workshops and outdoor programs to enhance your life skills. All programs are recovery and strengths based, with a focus on personal growth. Mobile Community Support assists people in West Auckland who live in the community with an experience of mental unwellness. Our staff work with a person’s strengths, resources and natural supports to create their choice of where they would like to live, learn and work. Our service supports those aged between 18 and 65, and is free to all New Zealand residents. Mobile Community Support walks alongside you in your journey of recovery and supports you to live the best life possible. We provide a balance between assessing what is happening for you, by listening and using strengths based tools, and supporting you practically to achieve your goals. increasing social and leisure activities becoming more active in your local community. The aim is to provide a safe and supportive home like environment that lets you plan for your move into a more independent living situation. The biggest mistake people make in life is not trying to make a living at doing what they most enjoy. Appropriate employment is often a key factor in the recovery journey, and can make a dramatic difference to people's lives how they see their world, how they see themselves, how they see their future. Open waged employment Supported Employment is based in the open labour market same rewards, same conditions as everyone else. Individualised based upon partnership Supported Employment services are expected to meet a client's individual support needs whether employer or job seeker . Direct access to employment pathways Supported Employment services will facilitate direct access to the labour market optimally within 4 weeks developing and utilising a precise job person match without insistence upon prolonged 'getting ready' activities or pre vocational training. 'Life match' through choices Work is means to an end and should compliment and enhance a person's life and well being, and the achievement of their aspirations and potential
