Although they are based in the satellite classroom, the students can participate in mainstream classes and activities for portion of the day, usually accompanied by a teacher or teacher aide. We believe, that in order to enhance the learning needs and healthy being of students, it is urgent to work in partnership with families and also promote their healthy being. Students at the Bottom School are included in all Oaklynn has to offer, as healthy as learning opportunities within our local community, for example swimming and the use of other community facilities. These students also follow a community based programmed that is designed to urge their transition to post school life, for example greater access to leisure and pleasure facilities in their communities.
The classes at Green Bay High School are located in the heart of the school, and have been purpose built to yield modern compliant teaching spaces for our students. At Oaklynn we grip the learning of students with exceptional education needs, and the well being of these students and their families, at the center of everything we do. Students at the tall school are provided with some opportunities to integrate with mainstream classes and students where appropriate. Oaklynn School is a network of facilities linked by the Bottom School in New Lynn, with the Base School being the istrative center of the school. Our programmed at Oaklynn DEC is designed to cater for the needs of our students who are in their final scanty years at school.
We have a close, supportive relationship with our host schools, and our satellite staff and students are accepted and welcomed into the life of the host schools. Other Focus Areas Other focus areas for learning and urge are also identified and these translate across to the Other Skills’ area of the IE. The transition teacher meets with the student and their promote network to thrive an individualized plan. One of the urgent things is that the host school children get to know our children as people in their own right and this helps them to grasp that the more we are different, the more we are the same. Oaklynn is a specialist school for students with high and very high needs, aged 5 21yrs.
We also have a number of mainstream high school students who encourage our students in our own classes reverse integration. We are qualified to yield promote for parents by networking urge services both within and without of the school, by networking with agencies and by helping to set up respite concern and professional assistance when needed. All students are provided with a balanced curriculum, with Specialist teachers supporting class programmed and activities. The learning that takes deposit at school is only piece of all learning that happens during a child’s life and parents and caregivers need to work together with educational staff so that school life matches the child’s life.
We also urge students enrolled in mainstream schools through our Specialist Teacher Outreach Service. All of our students aged 5 10 years are educated in a satellite class located in a mainstream school. All teaching staff and therapists at our school attended a three day workshop in Jan 2014, presented by teach Trainers from the University of North Carolina, USA. Students either follow the SPEC TRUMP’ programmed, which covers the Key Competencies, by providing learning opportunities in over eight curriculum areas, or SPEC Headway’, which includes modules from areas including Environment, Life Skills, Leisure, Vocational, and Sensory modules. Learning programmed and activities are selected from a range of areas to face all the aspects of development and learning including social, emotional, cognitive, physical and communication. Our ultimate aim is to make the transition from school to post school community based adult life as glossy as possible, by providing wealthy school based programmed to meet the specific needs of our senior students and establishing links with service and education providers, employers, community groups, private trusts, and funding organizations.
Options include our maximum physically supportive setting at the Bottom School or satellite classes in local mainstream schools. We currently have three classes located at Green Bay Lofty School for our inferior age students, as we ll as classes at our Bottom School site
